Bicheno and surrounds
Sustained by the sea, Bicheno is a long-time fishing town at the heart of a region famous for its produce, wineries and natural landscape.

It’s the perfect base from which to explore the magnificent Freycinet Peninsula, the Douglas-Aplsey National Park, the dark heritage of Maria Island, and the many ocean beaches of Tasmania's east coast. Bicheno’s natural beauty is one of stark contrast. The Govenors Island Marine Reserve - adjacent to 'The Gluch' - is a great spot to view sealife, and penguin watching tours depart regulary of an evening.
Dining options are aplenty with several local restaurants, including resort dining rooms open to the public, serving the visitor succulent variations on the daily catch of crayfish, oysters, abalone and scallops. Two local hotels also offer meals and Bicheno’s cafés serve great breakfasts and light lunches. For those interested in activities and adventure, there’s a golf course, aquarium, wildlife park, sailing, tennis and saltwater fishing tours. The area is also widely recognised as one of the best diving spots in Australia with lessons available. There are also bikes and kayaks for hire.
Redbill beach
Bicheno Beach Stay overlooks the delightful Redbill Beach, a long sandy stretch austerely punctuated by lichen covered rocks, home to the 'Redbill' Oyster-catcher and the local penguins.

At low tide you’ll see a sandbar emerge, offering a unique passage to Diamond Island - a walk enjoyed by many.
